Wiltshire Community Foundation delighted to sponsor Pride of Swindon Awards

The Wiltshire Community Foundation is proud to be a sponsor of the 2020 Pride of Swindon Awards, which celebrates the town’s community heroes.

It is the second time the Community Foundation has backed the awards, which are now in their twelfth year.

Swindon Mayor Kevin Parry was joined by awards founder Shirley Ludford as the countdown to the 2020 season began at Swindon Borough Council’s offices.

He said: “These are awards are brilliant because they recognise people that go above and beyond for their community. They do things that would never ever happen if weren’t for them.

“During my mayoral year I’ve seen so many wonderful groups and individuals doing great things and I don’t think people actually appreciate what they do.”

Swindon 105.5 station manager Shirley Ludford said the awards give praise to the town’s unsung heroes.

“There are so many individuals and groups providing wonderful services to our town and they go under the radar so often. This is a great way of recognising these people, especially those who aren’t looking for it,” she said.

“Without them, our town would really struggle because we rely so much on these groups and individuals to make a difference to so many. If they weren’t there, goodness knows what the town would be like.”

She said the awards team are grateful for the Community Foundation’s support. “We appreciate very much how the Wiltshire Community Foundation is lending its support. These awards are essential for the voluntary sector working in the town, it’s way of reaching people and telling the community what you are doing. And if you do get that recognition it can also help with funding bodies. They will be impressed with the fact you have been recognised in this way.”
