Nominate your unsung charity heroes for new awards

THE Wiltshire Community Foundation is delighted to be supporting the 2018 Wiltshire Community Pride Awards being organised by Newsquest Wiltshire and sponsored by Nationwide.

They are aimed at celebrating the people who make so much difference to the lives of others.

We want to ensure these new awards truly reflect the wonderful work being done in Wiltshire, so we are urging every charity and group we work with to look at the categories and nominate someone by following the link below.

Because we work with some many groups we know there are scores of wonderful stories to be told and unsung heroes that deserve recognition.

Every group has someone who selflessly gives of their time to make their community better.

There are ten categories for people to enter, Lifesaver Award, Good Samaritan Award, Courage Award, Charity Champion Award, Charity Award, Volunteer Award, Hero Award, Achiever Award, Carer Award and the Environment Award.

These awards, which will be presented at a lunch at the Swindon Marriott Hotel on Friday, October 26, will be an important showcase for the third sector and will help to highlight how much of Wiltshire’s need is being met.

Rosemary Macdonald, our chief executive (pictured), will be a member of the judging panel and a guest at the awards. She said: “Last year we gave out £1.2 million in grants to scores of groups large and small. All of that money is helping dedicated and selfless people to address real areas of need, be that poverty, loneliness, mental health issues, domestic violence, disability or homelessness to name just a few.

“In the face of ever-increasing cuts in the public sector the pressure on charities to step into the breach is greater than ever before. Now, more than ever, is the right time to champion the charities in our great county who do so much.

“I’d like to thank the Swindon Advertiser, Gazette & Herald and Wiltshire Times for organising these awards and am looking forward to hearing some of the stories that come out of it.”

The awards are also a great way to attract extra recognition for the work of your charity and to thank the volunteers, staff and supporters who do so much.

All the winners will be featured in Newsquest’s three Wiltshire titles, the Swindon Advertiser, Gazette & Herald and Wiltshire Times, as well as on their websites.

But the deadline for nominations is looming. The last day for them is September 16.

Nominations are simple and quick, just make them online by clicking on this link:

Please share this email so we can ensure we get plenty of entries and as many local causes as possible are highlighted.

We wish everyone the best of luck!
