University Bursaries - One Degree More

University Bursaries are available to young people from Wiltshire and Swindon who are under 25 and are about to start or are currently enrolled on an Undergraduate Degree course at a UK university. The bursary is £1,500 per annum – with the possibility of an extra £500 for certain courses and/or situations. Once awarded, the bursary is paid for each year of the degree so long as circumstances remain the same

University Bursaries are available to applicants who have been residents of Wiltshire County or Swindon Borough for the past 2 years. They are made through various funds, including the Gordon Lake Fund, the Shuker Fund, the William 'Doc 'Couch Fund and the Wiltshire Education Fund.

Bursaries are awarded as a contribution to general living expenses, travel costs, books and course costs whilst at university.


  • Been resident for at least two years in Wiltshire or Swindon* AND
  • Be in receipt of means-tested benefits or parents, carers or guardians be in receipt of means-tested benefits AND
  • Be aged between 17 – 24 years at the time of the application AND
  • Be eligible for funding through Student Finance England AND
  • Be applying for support for their first undergraduate degree (including an integrated masters course) at UK universities

* We will consider applications if you have lived here less than 2 years, but it does depend on circumstances. Complete the Expression of Interest and we will be in touch to clarify

* If you are alreadyat university residency refers to 'the family home'.

Use of Bursary

  • Bursaries can only be used to support higher education needs.
  • Bursaries are awarded as a contribution to general living expenses, travel costs, books and course costs whilst at university
  • Bursaries cannot be awarded for post-graduate course such as stand-alone masters, PhDs or other postgraduate courses

You will be requested to complete annual monitoring covering progression on your course.
